Its me or the dog? fashion accessories?
have you ever watched that show? did you see the one with the chinese crested who's owners dressed her up in all these stupid outfits? the dog trainer told them exactly what i think which is that it creates problem dogs when you treat them like fashion accessories rather than dogs. what do you think? do you think its true or do you like to dress up your pets? did anyone watch? i didn't say the show was stupid

- i donno i agree but then i occasionally tie a bandana around my dogs neck and i dress her up 4 halloween and we have matching polos we wear once in a while too.
- never seen the show, however, I agree that animals should not be treated as an acessory. But it can be fun and cute to dress your pup. I don't like the polish and headgear they sell, but a t-shirt is okay.
- If it's so stupid (with which assessment I'd agree, btw), WHY DO YOU WATCH?????? Take away the audience, and this crap gets pulled off the air. All you're doing is supporting it.
- lol i saw that show for the first time yesterday, that very one. i think that it is wrong to have pets just as fashion accesories. it's ok to put something on once in a while, but not 24/7
- It's treating an animal as an accessory, rather than the dressing up per se, which can lead to behavioural problems. People who want to pay more attention to the perfect colored collar or the cutest matching booties don't always take on a dog with the correct intentions, or after having done all the necessary research. As such, they're rarely prepared for important things like training, housebreaking and socialising - because they mostly just thought about how cute and fun their dog was going to be. My Whippets and Chihuahuas all have coats and sweaters for winter and cooler seasons - being thin-coated they can't withstand rain or cold, and I like a bit of color in their jackets on a wet day. My desire to keep them warm and cheery doesn't interfere with my ability to be a good dog owner - but I'd suppose that's because I set out from the start to be a well-researched and responsible owner.
- I have two chihuahuas and the only time we've ever put any sort of clothing on was if the had to go outside in wither, but even then it was just a small sweater. Nothing fancy. I agree that it is wrong to dress up your pets. Your not little girls, and their not your dolls! (I hope I don't sound rude)
- I think its absolutely ridiculous to dress up dogs. They are animals not some kind of furry hybrid handbag.... They are not fashion accesories. I have two dogs, a border collie and a spriger spaniel, they run around in muck/dirt and happily wag their tails as they dig holes in the back garden. They are animals and should be treated as such. They can be great companaions, however, these are very intelligent animals and if you start to dress them up and treat them like a princess (dont get me wrong I love my dogs but come on people!), they develop a complex and often turn viscious and cranky. Of course some thin coated dogs need jackets in winter and that is different, it would be cruel not to keep them warm but the type of people that you mentioned that appeared in the tv show are bad for dogs and create behavioural problems for the dog. One should love their dogs for what they are and not for what purse/outfit they look good with!!!
- i missed it. i think it's wrong to dress up a dog. i don't think cruel is the right word. my little terrier x pup has a couple of sweaters, but only for going outside when it's really chilly. but as she's nearing the 1 yr mark, she doesn't seem to chill as quickly. and i know she hates the sweaters. alot of people blame it on Paris, but what about the movie Legally Blonde? seeing a chi named Buster dressed in pink was somewhat horrifying.
- I don't believe in dressing up my pups at all. They don't even wear sweaters here in frigid Michigan!
- The show that you are refering to is called "It's Me or the Dog". The trainers name is Victoria Stillwell. Ms. Stillwell asked where the girl had gotten the dog and the girll sreplied from a breeder in Essex, (England). Ms. Stillwell asked about the dog and the girl told her that the dog was all alone in a cage at the age of 2 years old. Ms. Stillwell then commented on how the dog being in a cage by herself and was cowering in the back of the kennel - Ms. Stillwell then stated that we as humans want to get these animals because we want to "baby " the dog. Ms. Stillwell then commented that the breeder was handing off a liability. The dog was being babied and as such was not being treated as a dog should be treated. She was allowed to get away with a lot of things becasue of her ( the dog) being babied. I think that THE ONLY ( LET ME REPEAT ONLY) reason that a dog should have any sort of clothing on is to keep it warn in the case of a dog like a Chinese Crested or other such dog that doesn't have a lot of hair. I have 2 German Shepherd Dogs ( male 103 lbs, female 77 lbs) and would never, ever dress them up. It would take away their diginity !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
