Clothes for teenager going camping?

hi there iam a teenage girl and our youth group is going camping for the week in northern canada, and i dont have a clue what to wear, as it will be frezzing cold 24/7 all the time, and as a teenage girl i cant seem to keep warm, even in the warmest of temperatures, i would imagine i will need tonnes of layers but i dont really know exactly what clothing and how many of each clothing to wear each day, i dont have money to buy expensive outdoor clothing,so the clothes will have to be my own, and i also have pajamas that i will take, but they are shorts and t shirt, and i dont know if they will keep me warm, but i have to wear them, as i love them i also have yahoo messenger, feel free to help me through that aswell thanks

  1. Don't go, it doesn't sound like a good idea. What's the point of camping in extremely cold conditions for god?
  2. For bottom, wear jeans and snow pants that are easy to move in. For top, wear a tank top and over that a long sleeve shirt, and over that a sweatshirt/hoodie, and over that a nice warm winter coat!! For shoes wear 2 pairs of socks and snow boots. For hands, wear water proof gloves with a hand warmer inside. For head, wear your warmest hat! Hope you have a great time!!
  3. well yea its going to be freezing. when i went to Niagara falls this winter it was like 6 degrees. and i had on 3 shirts and a coat. and 2 pairs of pants. and i was still cold i suggest that you wear that plus more. and as for the pajamas. the hotels have heaters. so your going to be fine with shorts. well good luck, have fun and god bless you
  4. Well, I can probably help you 'cause I live in Canada and I camp all the time. Really, the key is layers. If you have them, I suggest wearing a tank top on the bottom, then a long sleeved shirt, over that a short sleeved T-shirt and then a hoodie. That's the way they go together best. Add more layers if you want. Then for the bottom, I really suggest you wear some long underwear (long johns), followed by normal pants (Never, ever jeans. Anything but jeans.) and then ski pants. If you don't have ski pants, which I don't either, just wear wind breakers or some water-proof type bottoms that you can fit over your pants. This is really important if you don't want to be miserable and wet all week. If you don't have them I suggest you go out and buy some. If you can't find any girl ones, which you might not, get the windbrakers from the guys section. Anyways, for socks, pack on a layer of at least two. One can be normal gym socks but the other really should be wool or some other warm material because the white ones wont do much for you at all. Your going to need some really good mitts ( not gloves; you can put on those little tiny gloves underneath the mitts for grabbing stuff, but mitts are what will keep you warm). Boots are one of the most important things you'll be wearing, because if your feet get wet and your in the bush, you will be SO miserable. That is also why you should pack extra everything, especially socks. So, the boots should be actual real winter boots, not spring hiking boots or golashes. Just wear the best pear you or your mom - or your dad I guess - has. If you have mucklucks, wear them, they will make you smile even if they're a pain to put on! If the best pair you have always gets wet in the bottom or has holes in it, try to find those places where the water comes through and tape it up with tough tape like electrical or duct. Try to tape it up from inside because, well, you'd look pretty funny with it on the outside of your boots. For coats, just wear the warmest one you've got, and you really should pack a scarf because your face could get cold. You should always wear a hat even if you hate hats. Hoods aren't good enough. Optional stuff are, like, ear muffs and those face-covering-thingies. This may sound extreme and all, but seriously, staying warm is so important for winter camping. If your cold, your not going to have fun. Remember that if you get wet, even a tiy tiny bit, please tell someone about it and ask to go change as soon as you can. Oh and as for your PJ's, the shorts and T-shirts are perfect. Whatever you do, especially if your sleeping in a tent, don't keep on your layers when you sleep. Take off everything except a light T-shirt and long underwear (or shorts, but I suggest you keep on your long underwear maybe). If you keep your layers on, your going to sweat during the night and wake up iced! Hopefully they're providing you with army-style sleeping bags if your in a tent. Heres another tip: stuff all the clothes that you'll be wearing for tomorrow in the bottom of your sleeping bag, so when you put them on they'll be nice and warm instead of chilly. Also, try to cover your head when you sleep with your sleeping bag. As you can see, winter camping is much harder and more frustrating than normal camping, but if you do the right stuff, you'll be fine. I know it's brutal, but fashion has to be put aside for this kind of stuff. Hopefully the weather stays reasonable. Have fun! :)
